Heredity Spastic Paraplegia
The disease of Heredity Spastic Paraplegia (HSP) is the collective term for a group of neurological disorders which are inherited. There are nearly 20 different forms of HSP presently. It is a rare disease which can infect the person at any age right from the infancy age up to late in his adult hood.
Symptoms Of Heredity Spastic Paraplegia:
Some of the causes for HSP includes:
- Progressive weakness will be noticed
- Stiffness in the muscles of the legs
- Toning of the muscles will become lose
- Frequency and urgency in urination
- Balance difficulty
- Face difficulty in walking
- Muscles spasms
- In severe cases, there will be mental retardation, hearing impairment, lose control over the voluntary movements.
Causes Of Heredity Spastic Paraplegia:
The causes for this condition are usually genetic there are various mutations which takes place at the genetic level in any human being and result in this condition to appear. For example if the mutation takes place in proteolipid protein then it will result in progressive leukodystrophy, dysmyelination and axonal degeneration.
Similarly, mutation in the neuronal cells especially in those cells which are responsible for growth, guidance, migration of the neuronal cells . This will result in reduced corticospinal tracts.
Treatment Of Heredity Spastic Paraplegia:
No specific treatment has yet being discovered for this condition. Physiotherapist are only help for the people suffering from this condition. They can design some exercise program to regain the lost sensation and movement in the affected part. The range of movement and strength in the muscles can only be regained by regular physical sessions. Some devices like canes and walkers can help in walking movement.
