Chicken Pox Vaccine
Chicken Pox Vaccine In Children
The live- virus varicella vaccine (Varivax) produces a constant immunity against chicken pox. It can prevent chicken pox or can reduce its severity if it is used within three days or possibly up to 5 days, after the exposure of infection. U.S. Center for Disease Control And Prevention Advisory Committee on Immunization Practises has revised the schedule for immunisation in children. According to new schedule, children should receive two doses of chicken pox vaccine. The first dose administered when the child is 12-15 months of age and the second dose when he is 4-5 years of age. Those kids who had received only one dose can catch any time, as the second dose can be taken after three months of the first dose. This is done as many children who were vaccinated once in their life developed the disease at an early age. So the plan for getting vaccinated again came into being.
Chicken Pox Vaccine In Adults
U.S. Centre for Disease Control recommends that every healthy individual without the previous history of chicken pox be vaccinated. Centre recommends at least two doses of vaccine 4-5 weeks apart. Some special category of individual such as those who remain in high risk of transmission or exposure like day care and hospital staff etc; non pregnant child bearing aged ladies; international travelers.

Studies suggest that Zoster vaccine can fight half of all the shingles cases CDC has recommended that all people who are above 60 years of age and above and have intact immune system must have this vaccine.
