7 Ways to Escape Back Pain

It is difficult to know the exact cause for back pain as the back is a very complex mechanism to understand. The central part of the back is spinal cord, interlinked with different bones and vertebrae with numerous ligaments and muscles. The major cause of back pain is due to some changes in spinal cord or an injury to neck or back region.

  • Watch Out for Bad Posture: It is advisable to practice good posture all the time. By the term good posture we mean to say keep your back straight not arched and your shoulders at level. Even when you are relaxing don’t slump. In case you have to stand for long periods then it is better to rest one foot on low stool. Remember to shift your weight from one foot to other. Keep changing your position no matter what you are doing. For healthy back it is better to wear comfortable shoes with good support and low heels.
  • Sit up Straight: Select a chair that provides your lower back good support. Give additional support to your back by adding a small cushion or rolled–up towel at your back. Sit properly with both feet on the floor or on a low stool and keep your hips and legs at a 90–degree angle. To avoid leaning forward it is better to keep your chair close enough to your desk. In case your job requires you to sit for long period then get up now and then to stretch.
  • Get Some Exercise: To keep your back in good position follow a simple exercise program including aerobics, flexibility and strengthening exercises. Make sure that you do at least 30 minutes of exercise daily without fail. It is advisable to you to consult your physician before starting any exercising program.
  • Practice Safe Lifting: While lifting weight or any object, make sure that you keep your spine straight. Remember not to bend your waist you can squat, bending your knees or bend at the hips. Use your arms and legs to lift and keep the object close to your body.
  • Enjoy Restful Sleep: In case you sleep on your back then keep a pillow under your knees. If you sleep on your side then keep your knees bent. This will help in giving complete rest to your back while sleeping.
  • Maintain Healthy Weight: In case you are overweight it is better to lose those extra pounds as they are putting extra pressure on your spine.
  • Stop Smoking: Many research studies have linked smoking to many back disorders. Researchers say that smoking tends to make your bones weaker by slowing the production of new bone cells. Even weak bones can result in severe back pain.
