Benefits of Sprouts
Sprouts have been regarded as “health food” because of the health benefits it possesses. Recent study shows that in addition to being an excellent source of nutrients, they also have important medicinal ability. Sprouts like alfalfa, radish, broccoli, clover and soybean have concentrated quantity of phytochemicals which is a plant compound that can protect us against diseases.
Studies on canavanine, an amino acid analog in alfalfa, have confirmed benefit for pancreatic, colon and leukemia cancers. Plant estrogens are also plentiful in sprouts. They enhance bone formation and density and avert bone breakdown or osteoporosis.
They are also useful in controlling hot flashes, menopause, PMS and fibrocystic breasts tumors, etc. Alfalfa sprouts are one of our best food sources of another compound, saponins. Saponins reduce the bad cholesterol and fat but not the good HDL fats.
Sprouts also have a plenty of extremely active antioxidants that prevent DNA destruction and protect us from the constant effects of aging.
