First Aid for Burns

The austerity of a burn depends on its size, intensity and spot.When the burns are located on the face, neck, hands and feet they are very severe. They tend to be more severe when they are spread over large parts of the body or when they are combined with other injuries.
Burns result in pain, infection and shock. They are most serious when the victims are very young or very old. The types of burns are listed below.

• First Degree: First degree burns are the least severe.They are characterized by redness or blemish, mild swelling and pain.Excessive exposure to the sun is a common cause of first degree burns.

• Second Degree: Second degree burns are more severe. They are much more profound than first degree burns. They look red or blotchy and have sores, they may also engage in losing fluids through the damaged skin. Second degree burns are mostly very painful because the nerve ending are usually intact, in spite of the severe tissue damage.

• Third Degree: Third degree burns are the deepest. They may look white or charred. They extend through all the layers of the skin. Victims of third degree burns may experience severe pain or no pain at all if the nerve endings are destroyed.

First Aid for Burns

• First Degree: Wash with cool running water and apply moist dressings and bandage loosely.

• Second Degree: for second degree burns apply dry dressings and bandage loosely. Do not use water as it may add to risk of shock.

• Third Degree:  for third degree burns use the same treatment as second degree.
