Diabetes and Its Effects
Regular check up is always regarded as the first step for self health care. In the same way it is always better to consult your doctor regularly to find out if you are diabetic. If you are diabetic it is very important that you know about the various problems that can be caused due to diabetes. You can avoid many problems related to diabetes if you take proper care of your health. If you don’t take care of diabetes it can lead to serious health problems. Mostly people don’t realize that they have diabetes until they have symptoms from serious or severe problems such as:
• loss of sight
• kidney disease
• nerve disease
Loss of sight:
People who are diabetic should never ignore visual symptoms because they could be due to the complications of the disease. Timely diagnosis and treatment can reduce loss of sight. Certain symptoms can be corrected with the help of standard prescription lenses, while others may need medication or surgery. But if the damage is in the advanced stage the remaining vision cannot be restored to normal levels.
Kidney disease
The kidneys act as the filter in the body as they filter the waste and help the body in getting rid of the waste in the form of urine. But when you are diabetic the blood vessels that supply to kidneys become narrow. This hinders the proper working of the kidney. Some symptoms of kidney disease include fatigue, weakness, and weight loss.
Nerve disease
Diabetic neuropathy or nerve disease is long-term damage to the nerve fibers. It usually happens when the levels of blood sugar are high. The first symptom of nerve disease in diabetes is the sensation in the feet is reduced. It affects both the legs equally and ultimately it spreads up to the legs. Lack of proper sensation in your feet can make them more prone to injuries.
Diabetes can lead to many more diseases if proper care is not taken.
