Stress Busters for Parents!
Vacation is generally seen as an off period for all members in a family to have great time. But doctors think it is otherwise for parents and caretakers. A report from American Psychological Association says that 53 percent of people who have children at home are concerned about stress!
Though the reason is not directly children, silent social demands (eg: taking children on vacation, buying things) can be sources of stress. As a result, parents find themselves facing tough time at work, shouting at children, blaming, and in the end regretting all of it!
So here are some suggestions from ygoy that will help you deal with parenting:
Understand Stress: More than any other suggestion, this is what is going to help you. What do you do when you think you are stressed? Are you being reactive, do you simply isolate yourself from everyone, do you simply skip meals are some questions that will help you understand your stress behavior. Once you observe the pattern, you will feel confident that you can handle stress, even when you are on a vacation.
Expectations Analysis: More often than not, it is not the things that go wrong bother us. Instead, we are bothered because our desires and expectations aren’t fulfilled. Keep this in mind, while planning your vacation. Instead of telling yourself that you will not allow children near a swimming pool, be prepared with what kind of cares do you need to take when children are near swimming pool.
Seek Professional Support: It is not just children who need help and care! You too need some help too. But parents are so lost in giving care, and solving stress, they can actually tend to forget about themselves in all this. Do that, and you are lost, even for your children, who are of utmost importance to you.
All in all, if you are feeling stress, do not expect that you will lose are your stress in just a week or two. It takes more and sometimes less. But don’t rush into de-stressing yourself.
