Cure for Boredom!

How can one beat boredom? Well, if there was one answer to this question, no person in this world would be bored. So lets try and find a way out of boredom

Understanding your Boredom:

Repetition: Repeatedly doing same kind of work, same kind of in the same kind of environment, and with same kind of people is boring.

Solution: So, it helps to take a break. But when you cannot, then the best thing is to do things differently like changing the order of the work process, having lunch out, asking friends to pick you up at your work, carrying ipod to your work etc.

Lack of Innovation: Sometimes it so happens that, your work doesn’t need great brainwork. Say like washing dishes at home, or getting photocopies, etc. Though your brain is working, it is not challenged and hence there is no innovation – result boredom.

Solution: You already know. You cannot avoid cleaning your dishes can you? Just go switch on your music, or become a singer. Let the dishwasher be the drummer, and sing along. Also experiment if your detergent can clean all mars. And use innovation. It will not only exercise your brain, you will entertain yourself.

Too long Weekend / Vacation: Sometimes, weekends can actually bore you; especially, after a not so interesting week. Or Vacations can be just too long.

Solution: Just pull out a paper and pen and write down what will you do if you have say few thousand dollars more. It will inspire you to get that. And, don’t make a habit of doing this – or else you will end up only dreaming!

Complacency/Procrastination: These twins can be a major reason for your boredom. That bit of carelessness, associated with laziness can be great enemies.

Solution: Find where your laziness and carelessness comes from. Sometimes you care not interested in the work, then find why did you chose to do it anyways. Remember, you do a work only because you asked for it (one or the other way). And if you still think the reasons aren’t fitting, tell people concerned about it. It makes things easier for them, and you.

But more than what is mentioned above, note that boredom is a common factor for everyone – from Da Vinci to Einstein from Bill Gates to Steven Spielberg, everybody had gone through the feeling of boredom. Not because they were doing what they didn’t’ want to, because they were too tired of what they did.

But their priority was more to find a solution to their problems in the best possible way rather than feeling bored.

Having an aim and trying to achieve the way you want is a sure shot cure for boredom.
