If you are feeling low and depressed, all you need to do is stuff yourself with food and let your spirits soar high. But watch out, for not all food items have the potential to lift you from your blues. Here’s a list of what you can gorge.
Food items rich in omega 3 fats, folic acid, B12 and Vitamin D are considered to be mood lifters. Tryptophan, glutamic acid, selenium, green tea, thiamine and folic acid are also excellent in heightening your spirits.
- Tryptophan, which is an essential amino acid, triggers the release of serotonin that acts on your nervous system by relieving yourself from depression. Fish, roasted chicken, cheese, peanuts and eggs enhance the serotonin activity in your brain.
- Eat dark chocolate and lift your mood. Chocolates contain serotonin boosting sugar and other chemicals that stimulate the central nervous system.
- Garlic contains selenium that reduces your anxiety levels and elevates your mood. Other food items rich in selenium are meat, tuna, swordfish, oyster etc.
- While preparing green tea, add cardamom to it. Cardamom is an excellent stimulant and gives you relief.
- Thiamine is an excellent mood booster. Fruits like pineapple, dark green vegetables, wheat germ, rice bran and milk products contain high proportions of thiamine.
- Orange, pomegranate, blackberries, soybeans, beans, Brussels sprouts, sunflower seeds and spinach contain folic acid that can heighten your mood.
- Wild salmon, ground flaxseeds, sardines, omega 3 fortified eggs contain omega 3 fatty acids that can also heighten your spirits.
Try out these food items and relieve yourself from stress and depression.
