Omega 3 can put a stop to Alzheimer’s
As per a latest study, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), a type of omega-3 fatty acid has the potential to put a stop to the growth of two kinds of brain lesions associated with Alzheimer’s disease. So a diet including fish oils, fish, almond, walnuts, soy, eggs and omega 3 food supplements help prevent the development of Alzheimer’s in ageing people. Another advantage is that DHA supplements will also not show any side effects. The positive effects of DHA might not stand true in the case of patients in an advanced state of the disease.
Even in those people who have genetically inherited the disease, increasing DHA intake can delay the growth of Alzheimer’s. Omega 3 supplements are now being tested on patients with Alzheimer’s in the United States, Canada and Sweden to see if the therapy really slows the disease.
DHA slows the accumulation of the protein tau, which is responsible for the development of neurofibrillary tangles, one of the main brain lesions of Alzheimer’s. DHA also keeps beta amyloid in check. Thus, with simple changes in diet and lifestyle, the risk of Alzheimer’s disease can be lowered.
