High Blood Pressure: Who is the real culprit?

Brain.gifAccording to a recent study by British researchers, it is the brain and not the heart that is responsible for high blood pressure. Hypertension is found out to be an inflammatory disease of the brain and not the heart.  The concern over this ailment is increasing as the number of people suffering from high blood pressure is shooting up. High blood pressure causes cardiovascular diseases and kidney damage.

It is the brain protein JAM-1 located in the walls of the blood vessels in the brain that is responsible for the increase in blood pressure. This protein raises the blood pressure by restricting the oxygen supply.

Julian Paton, a leader of the study conducted at Bristol University says, “We are looking at the possibility of treating those patients that fail to respond to conventional therapy for hypertension with drugs that reduce blood vessel inflammation and increase blood flow within the brain.”

If the type of inflammation is identified then the specific drug to deal with this disease can be manufactured.
