Here are some easy-to-adopt-at-home tips that would help gear down your electricity bills.
- Instead of having your central air-conditioning running all the time at home, just switch on the fans during summer and wear less and light clothing.
- During winter wear sweater instead of increasing the temperature of your heating equipment at home. Keep your heater at a temperature that would be comfortable for everyone.
- Seal the cracks around the window and door frames of your house to avoid leakage of cool and hot air. Heat could also leak through conduction due to poor insulation.
- Replace your incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent lamps wherever you can.
- Instead of using lamps, let the sun rays light up your room.
- Turn off the lights when you are not in the room.
- Wash your clothes in cold water unless the clothes really need to be washed in warm water.
- Instead of using the dryer, dry your clothes in the clothes line as much as possible.
- Wrap your water heater in insulation and turn down the temperature.
- Do not load your dishwasher partially; operate it only when there are enough dishes to wash.
- Cooking in a microwave instead of oven will save a lot of energy. Instead of baking separately, you can bake food items together.
- Do not leave the appliances plugged in.
- When you are away from home for a long time, turn off your refrigerator, clean it and leave the refrigerator door open.
