Soy Protein Can Lower Blood Pressure
Soy is a plant based protein containing very high levels of protein. According to experiments conducted by researchers, a regular diet of soybean products will help lower the blood pressure. Participants of the experiment who were given soy products experienced a lowering of blood pressure. Their average blood pressure levels dropped from 135/85 mm Hg to 131/82 mm Hg.
Soy proteins widen the blood vessels thus helping the body process the blood sugar more efficiently. Soy protein lowers the LDL (bad cholesterol) level in our body thus lowering the risks of cardiovascular diseases. It also raises the HDL (good cholesterol level). The American Heart Association recommends the consumption of soy protein as a heart-healthy diet.
According to evidence from animal studies, the bioactive compounds contained in soybeans like isoflavones reduce the risk of certain cancers. But high soy consumption can also cause bladder cancer. Soy proteins are good for our body if taken in less amounts.
