How to deal with morning sickness during pregnancy
Feeling dizzy or experiencing nausea and vomiting are the initial signs of pregnancy. These symptoms start showing at around the 6th week of pregnancy. Morning sickness is experienced by almost all pregnant women. This happens any time during the day and not necessarily in the morning. It is usually caused either due to hormonal changes or due to lower level of blood sugar during pregnancy.
- Carry snacks with you throughout the day. Eat whenever you feel like eating.
- Do not leave your stomach empty. Eat something every two hours.
- Morning sickness can lead to dehydration; so you must drink plenty of water. Drink small amounts of fluid frequently during the day. But avoid drinking fluids during meal time.
- Leave the widows of your room open as you need plenty of fresh air.
- Pregnant woman need a lot of sleep. Try to take afternoon naps.
- Take time off work as you need plenty of rest.
- If the smell in the kitchen while cooking bothers you, then ask someone else to cook food for you.
- Do not lie down just after eating.
- Eat salty potato chips to settle your stomach.
- Sniffing lemon or ginger gives temporary relief from nausea.
- Vitamin B6 is effective in relieving nausea.
- Avoid fatty and spicy food.
It is better to avoid over-the-counter medicines during pregnancy. But there are certain conditions that need immediate medication and consultation with the doctor. For example, during pregnancy, some women develop a serious disorder called “hyperemesis gravidarum”. The symptoms are persistent vomiting, chronic nausea, dehydration, and weight loss. This can result in severe complications if left untreated.
