11 Tips to Deal with Cold and Flu
Apart from getting flu shots there are other strategies that you can employ to avoid cold and flu this season.
- As cold and flu are spread directly by contact, wash your hands as frequently as possible. Telephones, keys, door knobs, keypads and other items that are commonly used by everyone in the office must be wiped regularly and kept clean to avoid infections being spread.
- Have a good night’s sleep for at least 8-10 hours if you feel tired.
- Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables to boost your immune system.
- Even exercise can enhance the functioning of your immune system.
- Structural and functional changes in our body due to smoking increase our chances of falling prey to infections. Smoking destroys the small hair in your nose which plays an important role in blocking the germs from entering your nose and lungs.
- Instead of using your hands, use tissue to cover your sneeze and cough to prevent spreading of the infection.
- Water drains out the toxins from your body; so, drink plenty of water.
- Go out for a walk or leave the widows of your house open. You need to breathe a lot of fresh air.
- Orange juice contains vitamin C which is an excellent cure for infections like cold and flu.
- Black tea enhances the action of cilia (hair-like substance that is found in the lining of the nasal passage).
- Ginger tea is also excellent against cold viruses.
Since there is no proper cure for cold and flu, it is better to prevent the infection from targeting you.
