Tips to Reduce Eyestrain from Computer Use
Staring at your computer monitor all day long can cause dry eyes, irritation, burning, blurring, vision problems, headache and sore neck. Follow some of these steps to reduce eye problems while at work.
- Get your eyes checked at least once a year.
- Every half an hour remove your eyes away from the screen and look around.
- Avoid reflections from windows or indoor lighting to appear on your screen.
- Use an anti-reflective monitor. Using anti-glace screen or filter will help.
- You can consider a pair of glasses specifically for computer use.
- Use monitors that can be tilted, lowered and raised.
- Place computer at 35 degree angle below your eyes.
- Staying close to the computer for a long time can cause dry eye. If you do not blink, your eyes aren’t being lubricated. Try to blink frequently and also take frequent breaks from work.
- If your eye gets red, use artificial tears.
- Soak a cloth in warm water and place it over your eyes to prevent it from drying.
- Brightness and contrast can strain your eye. Lower the brightness and adjust the color and contrast to suit your eye.
- Use larger font if necessary so that you can sit away from the monitor.
- Keep you eyes closed for a little while in between your working hours.
