“Sleep and Let Sleep” : Some Easy Ways to Stop Snoring
When the passageway between the nose and the throat is narrowed, the air will have to pass with a greater speed. While passing, the air causes the soft palate and uvula to vibrate, thus creating sounds.
Snoring is no laughing matter; it could have serious medical and social consequences. The faster the problem is solved the better. Follow these tips to stop snoring and sleep peacefully.
- Elevating your head while sleeping makes breathing easier and reduces snoring problem.
- Rest your head on a pillow while sleeping. If you are already using a pillow increase the height by adding an extra pillow. Sleep on a firm pillow rather than a soft one.
- Don’t take tranquilizers, sleeping pills or alcoholic drinks before going to bed. Instead, taking a spoon of honey would help. Alcohol and drugs cause the throat muscles to relax thereby narrowing the air passage.
- Instead of sleeping on your back, sleep on your sides.
- Follow a regular sleep routine.
- Do not go to sleep immediately after having your dinner.
- Overweight people are more likely to snore.
- Men are found to snore more than women.
- Stuffy nose due to cold reduces the nasal passage, and causes snoring.
- Women who snore when they are pregnant would be depleting the amount of oxygen that your baby gets.
- Having antihistamine tablets can clear the passage of air and facilitate easy breathing.
