How to Deal With Smoking Neighbors?
Smoking neighbors – it’s really a big problem if you can’t bear the smoke at all. In case you have any health problems like asthma - for which staying away from smoke is a necessity - definitely you have to find a solution to the problem of smoking neighbors. If you are the owner of the house, then you can ask them to stop smoking. If they don’t heed, you can throw them out. [Anyway, first of all you won’t rent your house for smokers.
But, if you are a tenant and facing the risk of secondhand smoke, here are some tips to deal with the problem.
Talk to your landlord first
Ask your landlord about ‘smoking ban’ in the lease agreement. If there is ‘smoking ban’, you have every right to ask your landlord to force them to stop smoking. If your landlord is lazy and doesn’t care, you need to force him first and make the things happen.
Discuss with your neighbors
Your neighbors are the source of your problem. So, you discuss with them and request them to stop smoking in home. If they say it’s difficult for them to completely stop smoking at home, you can ask them to smoke when you are not at home. Tell them the timings you will not be at home.
If you have any ‘stay away from smoke’ health problems, clearly explain them about these. Sensitive neighbors will definitely understand your problems and come to a possible agreement.
Call Police if discussions fail
If your neighbors don’t heed to your problems and your landlord is helpless, you can seek the help of police. But, before doing that plan well on how to proceed legally and possible complications.
Leave that place
Sometimes the legal solutions don’t work out and the problem may worsen and take new directions. In such case, there is no use staying at that place with ‘no mental peace’. Leave that place, and find a happy ‘no-smokers’ home.
