Blast Away Your Bad Mood
Sometimes you may find yourself getting irritable for almost no reason. You feel low and down the whole day and do not feel like concentrating on anything.
Constant stress, change and pressure of mundane life takes its toll on the mood. You may feel that there just isn’t enough time to do everything. You may be struggling to make your identity and self-image. But your boss suddenly fires you, and you discover a past-due credit card bill. A traffic jam irritates you and makes you late.
Though nothing really bad happens, a series of frustrating events drive you crazy. But the trick lies in coping with such mood swings and getting on with life. Remember happiness is a process, and you have to work towards achieving it.
Here are some tips to help you deal with your mood blues:
1. Recognize you’re not alone. Almost everyone experiences mood swings and you are definitely not alone. So you don’t need to feel too bad about it. Everybody sailed through it smoothly and so will you !
2. Divert your focus. You may sometimes feel that you aren’t doing anything productive and worthwhile. So find a project to focus on. It may be as simple as washing your car or cooking a great meal. You will get tangible results and feel gratified. Feeling gratified is a great way of lifting bad mood. Focus on something you have been ignoring. Read a great novel or sit by a fireplace and plan about your future with a positive outlook.
3. Talk to people whom you trust. Pent up feelings make matters worse, so talk to someone who is close to you and try to sort out the problem. Your friends may understand you better and the feeling that you are being cared for may be enoughh to blast away your blues. Dress up and go for shopping or dinner with your friends. Or talk to your family members. Counselors can also help you.
4. Exercise. This is a great way of relieving bad mood. You will also become more in tune with your body, and thus feel strong and accomplished. Exercising regularly produces more beta-endorphin, a hormone that controls stress and improves mood. So do some aerobic exercises, jog, run, take a walk, play some soccer or tennis, ride your bike or cycle, or punch a punching bag.
5. Do something that is guaranteed to make you smile. It might be as simple as looking through your old photo albums or watching your favourite comedy movie. Engaging your senses in something you feel good, is the perfect way of getting out of your bad mood.
6. Listen to some good and soothing music. Music soothes your soul and senses, so pick your favorite music and liten to it for sometime. Music is a fast fix for dealing with a bad mood.
7. Get a good sleep. Lack of sleep may also cause irritability and mood swings, so sleep and take enough rest. Do not overwork when yoy are sad, feeling tired can also cause more irritability.
8. Take a break and have a cup of tea. Sit quietly for 20 minutes and keep your mind blank. The silence may be enough to change your mood. Keeping your mind off everything brings you back.
9. Create something. Do something you like or get involved in some good work. Build something out of wood, write or paint. Put your feelings into your artwork.
10. Help others. Give something to the poor and the needy. Gather up those old clothes that don’t fit anymore and donate them to a good cause. You will feel satisfied and happy that you were able to help others.
