“Diabetes does not cause hair loss, but its medications does”, warn health researchers.

Specifically the medications taken to lower or control cholesterol level cause massive hair fall. Hair loss is a common side effect of diabetes medications.

However, the rate of hair fall depends upon the drugs used. The severity of complications and potency of drugs affect the amount of hair fall. Be it men or women, both suffer equally from hair fall due to diabetic medications.

In most cases, if potency of medication is reduced or taking certain medicines are stopped, hair would be back on your scalp. However, diabetes medications hardly result in baldness or complete hair loss.

For patients of type 2 diabetes, insulin is a necessary medication. And, they also need to take statin or other synthetic drugs to keep the cholesterol levels normal. These two types of medications cause hair thinning and also lead to hair fall. Research studies proved that diabetic blood pressure medicines also have similar effect on hair.

In some cases, medications used to treat nephrological disorders or kidney malfunctions that come along with high blood sugar level also badly affect hairs. But health experts suggest not stopping medications because of hair fall, and consulting your doctor for ways to re-grow the hairs.

To sum up, diabetes medications cause massive hair fall. So, diabetic patients need to take extra care of their hair to stop hair loss.
