Vaccine To Fight Obesity!
Health researchers have come up with good news for all those fighting with obesity – a new vaccine is developed to help them out in their fight.
Anti-obesity vaccine targets ghrelin, a hormone that decreases energy expenditure and fat breakdown. It makes the immune system produce antibodies to attack ghrelin. It was tested on rats, and it worked well to control weight in them. The mice given the vaccine had 20-30% decrease in weight gain compared to normal rats.
Vaccines designed to control various diseases work by producing antibodies that inactivate virus and bacteria that cause them. This anti-obesity vaccine also works the same way by making human immune system produce antibodies that bind and deactivate gherlin.
However it is not the only anti-obesity vaccine research done till now. Researchers are also making efforts to develop a vaccine that can effectively prevent the uptake of ghrelin by human brain.
The researchers say that still more research need to be done before they test it on the humans. They guess it takes two years more for human test.
How the vaccine will be used on humans is not yet finalized. It may be given in one or multiple shots, or it could be an oral vaccine.
