Contact Lens: Boon or Bane?
Many people with sight problems, are sporting a new confidence. The reason – Contact Lens. But, as is case with all the ‘new things’, contact lens have been in news for all the wrong reasons. One person went blind, while many others reported eye-problems. And even FDA is asking Bausch & Lomb some explanation. With all this happening, is Contact Lens the right option?
Contact Lens have replaced spectacles, have been serving better than the monster on the nose. The fact that Contact lens boost confidence of people who otherwise wear spectacles, has only added to its popularity. The choice of color, range, and flexibility have known to tempt one and all. With all the wonderful advantages, contact lens cause problems that are more than costlier.
Contact lens, because they ‘contact’ the eyes, can easily damage your eyes. And here you have no chance of closing your eyes! Some common problems caused because of wearing contact lens: are eye irritation, corneal damage, burning sensation.
Contact lens may cause huge damages to your eyes , especially to the cornea, because they reduce the oxygen supply to cornea. This, added with various ‘makes’ and ‘types’, does more harm than expected for twice the price of your spectacles.
Here are some tips to avoid problems with Contact Lens:
1. Lens for work: Use ‘Contacts’ for work only. Using lens that can be worn for more than a day, may cause more problems.
2. One set for a day: Get the right combination, and buy two. Use them alternative days.
3. Clean storage: Keep your contacts safe and secure. Use only contact lens cases or boxes to store your contacts.
4.Be prepared: Always keep your ’spectacles’ with you. In case of irritation to your eyes for more than 10 min, take your contacts off. You should also carry ‘water’ with you if you are travelling, wearing contacts.
5. No mix and match: Use contacts only in sets that you’ve bought them in. Do not mix and match.
6. Keep in touch with doctor, regularly: Before making a purchase, find the best the maximum time, by which you should get accustomed to the lens. If you are not comfortable by such time, immediately consult your doctor.
