avoid-backpain.jpgIt is a known fact that working on a personal computer results in back pain. USA is worst hit with more and more back pain complaints being received everyday.

It has to be understood that back pain is not always disease symptom, but is a result of years of misusing back. Understanding why back pain occurs is important to find a proper remedy.

We subject our spines to considerable stress by sitting in a ‘C’ shape. This is more so when we are working on a personal computer. However, the natural shape of spine can be felt by sitting or standing erect, and hence the ‘C’ sitting causes stress on the wrong points on the spine.

Here are some tips to avoid back pain resulting because of constant sitting:

1. Sit Erect: Whenever you are looking at a monitor of a PC, make sure you sit erect. Though this could uncomfortable in the beginning, only two or three days of constant practice will help you.
2. Set the Monitor Right: Most people set the monitors at the wrong angles. Infact, many believe that a PC monitor should be set high above the eye-level. But the best angle would be to place the top of the monitor, just under you eye-level. Set your chair accordingly.

3. Sit to Fit in the Chair: When sitting erect, make sure that the lower waist or the upper buttocks touch the back-rest of the chair. This will keep you off from unsafe ‘leaning back’.
4. Find the Right Chair: An ideal PC chair would be one that is height adjustable and has the backrest at an angle of 17 degrees backwards to the seat. A rotary one, with a rotation lock can be very useful.
5. Face the PC straight on: Many a worker has the tendency to bend towards his/her monitor or mouse or the colleague whom the generally talk to. Instead, facing the PC completely will help your eyes, and back as well.
6. Stretch frequently: Simple stretching exercises, atleast once in every two hours, will revamp your body.

A part from these use anti-glare to protect your eyes. New research in back pain relates eye problems and back pain. For many severe back pain patients doctors order not to ride a bike and ask to use a desktop computer lesser. The tips given here should definitely help you to avoid back pain, not a comp.
