10 Steps to Prevent Low Back Pain

Stresses like poor posture and sedentary lifestyle are common causes for break down and back pain. Here is a 10-step guide for people of all ages to reduce body stress, prevent back pain and improve quality of life.
- Identify problematic areas in sitting/standing postures and correct these imbalances.
- Make yourself mobile with daily stretches or activities that increase flexibility.
- Do exercises that involve the whole body, especially the core muscles of the stomach, back, hips and pelvis.
- Regularly do physical activities like walking, swimming and running for at least 20 minutes three times a week. Aerobic activities also can help decrease daily stress.
- Get up in every 15 to 30 minutes from your seat, and move around or stretch.
- Avoid standing in the same position for too long.
- When carrying heavy objects, keep them close to your body. Avoid carrying objects only on one side of your body.
- Try to sleep in a position that allows you to maintain the natural curve in your back.
- Warm-up before any physical activity.
- Maintain healthy lifestyle to decrease the chance of back pain and also get overall health.
