Preserving Your Wedding Gown

preserve-you-gown.jpgTo preserve your wedding gown, the first thing you need to do is cleaning it. You have to clean it within the first thirty days after the reception, because the more late the more difficult it turns to remove the strains.

Beads should be secured and sewn on before cleaning. You have to discuss with the cleaner on how to keep the beads safe. Following cleaning, you need to inspect the gown to find out any stains that were not removed. It may be riskier to opt for additional cleaning or handling to remove these stains. Think about all the possible risks prior to authorizing additional services.

Use Archival Products such as boxes and tissues that are acid free, lignin free for long-term textile storage. Use archival unbuffered or buffered tissues in between the folds of the gown to avoid permanent breaks or wrinkles. Buffered tissue is most suitable for synthetic fabrics, while unbuffered tissues are for natural fabrics like silk, cotton or wool.

Take out your gown about every 5 to 7 years for inspection and refolding. It helps to check whether your gown catches any stains that show with age. If you notice any new stains ask your cleaner to inspect the gown and possibly reclean it.

Store your gown in a cool, dry place such as underneath a bed or on a middle shelf of a closet. With proper care you can keep your wedding gown clean and safe for life-long and also for future generations.
