Winter Plans for Interior Plants

interior-plants.jpgFall is the best season for dream gardening. While spring is for flowering, fall is for planting.

Here are some tips for Interior Gardening this winter:

1. Warm Watering: Too much of cold water kills the ability of the roots to take in water and nutrients. Keep the water at least 90 F hot. Exceptions can be made to plants like spathiphyllum and ficus that need frequent watering.

2. Darkness for few: For Christmas Cacti special care needs to be taken to produce flowers in December. Keep them in 13-14 hrs of darkness each night, possibly in a different name. You will see how the blooms make you smile.

3. Keep them Safe: The festival is not far, and you might want to paint your home. So while you do that and after you do that, keep the plants away from the newly painted wall. Paints contain toxins that affect the growth of plants.

4. Lesser Nutrients: As the length of the day decrease, the growth of the plants also stops. Neither more water nor fertilizer will help this. So keep a track of the length of the day and decrease the amount of ‘food’ you supply the plant.
