Before understanding ‘hair loss after pregnancy’, remember few things:
1. Hair growth is affected by various factors like diet, health (both physical and mental), work, stress levels and hormones.

2. Hair in different places on the scalp, is in different phases of growth. That means some hair is being lost while some hair is growing.

3. Estrogen, the hormone produced in women, helps increase in hair.

Here is the reason why hair loss occurs after pregnancy:

During pregnancy, the estrogen produced in a woman’s body causes good hair growth. Hence most hair on the scalp remains in the growing phase (anagen). But after pregnancy, the levels of estrogen come down, and hair stops growing and shrinks (catagen phase). After 2-3 weeks, you start losing hair in strands (telogen phase).
