LAS Vegas – Dreaming the Impossible
I am a dreamer and a believer, and that makes me foolish. When so called practical people tell me that my dream of doing something big is not possible in the sense that it is away from reality I feel challenged. I guess sometimes being foolish pays off if you follow your dream consistently and staying committed inspite of the letdowns that you face in your journey. I got this insight when I looked at the massive structures and a huge city that was built in a Desert just because one man dreamed that a SIN city can be built in the middle of the desert and put all his money when well-wishers and friends were telling him that he is being foolish and far from reality. Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel (1906 – 1947) was an American gangster, popularly thought to be the impetus behind large-scale development of Las Vegas. According to popular myth, Siegel drove through the small town of Las Vegas, and Siegel suddenly had a vision of turning it into a gambling mecca. Siegel convinced his fellow mobsters with the idea of building a gambling super city in the Nevada desert, complete with a hotel, casino and entertainment. Siegel built a hotel-casino complex called “Flamingo” in the area, what later become known as the Las Vegas Strip.
Day 2 was much better than the previous day as we were comfortable with everything around CTIA, location of restrooms, meeting rooms, restaurants, information booths etc. We had so little time and lot of things to learn and understand. We met with some 5-6 companies who are providing same services as we do only hat they present themselves well and also put in lot of money to make it a successful business. After the end of day we went to end of the strip to fashion show mall, we traveled there by the monorail train. The monorail runs a long block away from the eastern side of the strip. The view of Vegas from the monorail was cool and after a little bit of window shopping at the mall, bought a T-mobile prepaid SIM card. The realization that the incoming calls were being charged at 24 cents a minute was a little shocking. We also had to book our air ticket to San Francisco and so called up my friend to book it online. He got us a good deal in the last minute category. After a little bit of wandering and quick dinner we finally reached hotel late to rest for the day.
